Course Commencement

Class attachment in a Speech & Drama class at Julia Gabriel Centre and mentoring time with the class teacher for 10 weeks in July – October. (Every participant in this module will be put into a different attachment class which, in most cases, will be on a Saturday or Sunday. Exact start date to be confirmed.)

10 Tuesday and Thursdays evening sessions (7.00 – 9.30 pm) at Julia Gabriel Centre in August – October, commencing on Tuesday 29th August. (For some weeks there will be both a Tuesday and Thursday session, and for some weeks only one session. No sessions will be held in the September holiday week.)

This course is the final module (Module D) of the Julia Gabriel Foundation Teaching Certificate (Speech & Drama) programme. Participants must complete Module A, Module B and Module C in order to be able to do this module (they can either take the other modules in previous intakes before going on to do Module D, or be doing some or all of Modules A – C in the same intake as Module D).

Each participant gains hands-on experience of working with children in a 10-week attachment to a Speech and Drama class at Julia Gabriel Centre for children somewhere in the 3 – 9 age-range. Every participant will be assigned to a different attachment class. (Usually this will be on a Saturday or Sunday as this is when most of Julia Gabriel Centre’s Speech and Drama classes take place, though a small number of weekday afternoon classes are also available for participants to be attached to.) There is also a 15-minute mentoring meeting with the teacher each week. Participants will write up their attachment class experiences and learning in a journal which will be submitted at the end of the course.

Participants also take part in 10 evening workshop sessions in which they’ll further explore their ability to speak and use the voice expressively, enhance their oral presentation skills and develop their subject knowledge of speech and drama teaching, leading up to some final practical presentations.
