The most important foundation for a young child’s healthy development is play. It is through play that versatility, imagination, reliability, inventiveness and resilience are developed. These are exactly the skills preschool-aged children need. Covid measures over the past few years have reduced the opportunities children have had to play – and we need to make up for that.

We invite anyone who spends time with young children to join us for this free 1½-hour workshop and discover how to help children share, take risks, and cope with not coming first. Our hands-on workshop will ignite playful creativity and give you tips to engage children in play to support their social and emotional development.

Storytelling is the art of lifting the written words off a page, sending forth images to a listener’s mind and bringing them to life! Effective storytelling requires insight into how to hold the listener’s interest, using physical and vocal expression to establish effective connections between the storyteller and audience.

Join us for a free 1½-hour workshop in which we explore ideas and techniques for becoming an effective storyteller. Through this hands-on, interactive session, you’ll come to understand how storytelling is a skill that can be acquired by anyone with an awareness of the dynamics involved. This workshop is useful for anyone who wants to embrace the power to engage and inspire imagination, enhance communication and strengthen the bonds of relationships.

“Movies will make you famous. TV will make you rich. But theatre will make you good.”
– Anon

There are many benefits to exposing young children to theatre as an art form. Performing arts build a sense of ownership and confidence and help instil a desire to communicate.

Join us for a free 1½-hour workshop to explore what it takes to enable children (particularly those of preschool and primary ages) to effectively bring stories to life using their voices and bodies and present them to an audience. Discover how to familiarise children with the environment of a performing space, help them understand the mechanics that build physical and vocal stage presence, and harness the creativity and courage of young performers by drawing from their intrinsic desire to play.

Trainer
Reuben George worked with Broadway artists on collaborative projects teaching music and drama for children in India, before moving to Singapore in 2015 to teach at Julia Gabriel Centre. He is currently the co-ordinator of the centre’s Stage Lights performance arts programme. He also mentors participants in the Julia Gabriel Foundation Teaching Certificate (Speech & Drama) programme.
