A Targeted 12-Week Literacy Support Programme for K2 Children Preparing for Primary 1

Is your Child Ready for the Reading Demands of Primary 1?

Primary 1 is a big step. From their very first day, children are often expected to read simple instructions, recognise common words, decode familiar vocabulary, and understand short texts with growing independence.

But for some K2 children, the challenge is not a lack of interest or ability. It may simply be that key early reading foundations – letter sounds, blending, sight words and decoding – have not fully clicked yet.

You may notice that your child:

These are common signs that your child may benefit from focused support in the building blocks of reading – and with the right approach, these gaps can be closed before Primary 1 begins.

THE PROGRAMME

Introducing Reading Stars

Reading Stars is a targeted 12-week literacy programme from Julia Gabriel Centre, designed specifically for K2 children who need extra help strengthening the core reading skills required for a confident start to Primary 1.

Drawing on over 35 years of expertise in nurturing young learners, our specialist educators guide children through focused phonics, blending, sight word recognition, spelling and comprehension practice — helping them approach words, sentences and stories with greater independence and self-assurance.

Admission is guided by a complimentary reading assessment to ensure Reading Stars is the right fit for your child’s current literacy level.

The Reading Stars Difference

bookstack

Unlike standard K2 programmes that focus heavily on writing and composition, Reading Stars strips away the complexity to focus on reading readiness and reading fluency. We believe a child cannot confidently write a story until they can fully decode a sentence.

It focuses on reading foundations first. Reading Stars is not a composition-heavy programme. It is designed for children who need help with decoding, blending and word-level confidence before they can fully engage with more advanced reading and writing work.

It is nurturing, focused and confidence-building. Children who struggle with reading can begin to feel that English is “too hard.” Reading Stars helps reduce the fear of the page by giving children achievable steps, supportive coaching and repeated practice — led by educators experienced in early childhood and early literacy.

It supports children during the critical window before Primary 1. Term 4 is a crucial period for K2 children. Reading Stars helps strengthen foundational literacy skills before they enter a school environment where independent reading is expected from Day 1.

It gives parents clarity and peace of mind. Parents receive regular updates on their child’s progress, helping them understand exactly where their child’s literacy gaps are and how they are being addressed.
