What People Say About Us

“Congratulations to you on the success of your centre. I've two boys whom I've placed in various programmes and I believe they've thoroughly enjoyed each and every lesson they attended. My younger boy was born more than ten weeks premature. The medical team in charge of him was concerned that he would be delayed in his milestones. He had to be assessed by the psychologists at KKH hospital when he reached 2 years old. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told he was not delayed at all and in fact, he was advanced for his age. The psychologist asked which playgroup he was attending. When I told her that he attended the Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama Centre, she revealed that there were other children from the centre whom she had assessed who were also advanced for their age.

We've been in and out of programmes for the past four years for my elder boy who is now 5, and two years for my younger son who is 3. Special mention to thank the following wonderful teachers: Jenita, Chewy, Li Xi, Priscilla and Ms Zhang. You also have a most wonderful team of patient counter staff who are ever so helpful. They do make a difference to 'lost' parents.”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better first school experience for Duncan than Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning. The PlayClub programme is excellent, but a good programme would be nothing without good teachers, and yours are the best! They execute the programme well, but that is not the most important thing: they do it with love. They enjoy what they are doing, and so do the children. They help them to keep their curiosity alive, and teach them the love of learning. Most important of all, they do that respecting each individual child’s needs. Your teachers have touched Duncan in such a special way.

I know it will stay with him for the rest of his life.

Thank you so much!”

Monica Ryan, mother of Duncan, 2½ , in PlayClub, Evans Road

“My family went on vacation in Europe recently for two weeks. Siyang had a healthy curiosity on the new sights and sounds encountered, enjoying thoroughly our trip through Bavaria, Austria and northern Italy. In Vienna, she was particularly interested in the Museum of Art History with its extensive Egyptian collection, asking many questions on the exhibits of mummies, sarcophagus, sculptures and paintings. In Venice, she naturally took a great interest in the gondolas. In particular she made sketches of gondolas especially one exhibited in the Doge's Palace. She also took three gondola ferry rides after overcoming an initial fear of riding in a rocking boat.

Siyang's classes have added tremendously to her curiosity, ability to express herself and creativity.

Thank you!”

“I commend your institution after having schooled my daughter there for two years. Taleena was at PlayNest at Evans Road with Raihan and then PlayClub. Not only did she have a fantastic time, but she developed lots of skills. She learnt to talk and construct sentences and express herself far earlier than I imagine she would have done at home. Additionally, she started to show us her passion for art and singing as a result of her time there.

Presently she is at PlayNursery with Evon and Meng laoshi. Both are fantastic teachers and really create such a warm and nurturing environment. Taleena loves her classes there and it is with great sadness that I will have to pull her out of school in the middle of August when we move to Switzerland.

Congratulations to your whole team at Evans Road: from the wonderful girls at the reception, who handle all enquiries and demands so sweetly and efficiently, to your wonderful teachers. All the staff I have interacted with have been superb and extremely gifted in early childhood education. I am really sorry my younger child Taari will never have the opportunity to attend the same classes that his sister loves and thrived on!”

Sujata Chandaria, mother of Taleena

“Myra has been with Gerry Nerva for four terms. Yet she asks to go back to Gerry’s class all the time. As a parent, I see Gerry’s love for the children, especially those under her care, and her passion for her role as facilitator. She has never lost her cool and is ever so patient with the little ones. Her endearing ways open up a child. In Myra’s case, although she is so talkative, Gerry never cuts her off from talking. She listens to everything Myra has to say from beginning to end. That is no easy feat especially when a toddler is not always coherent and comprehensible in her speech.”

Josephine Choo, mother of Myra Choo in Gerry’s PlayClub

“My daughter, Nicolette Luke Krishnan, attended Chiltern House when it was still at Halifax Road some years ago (editor’s note: It still is!). She is now 12 years old and I would like to thank you for the way your staff helped Nicky out of her shell.

We now live in New Zealand and I know that because of what she gained from Chiltern House, she has blossomed and has been able to achieve a lot for herself. She has just attained another academic scholarship at one of the top schools here and we are very proud of her, but every time I look back to see how far she has come, I can’t help but remember the way her teachers, Miss Neelama Gohkale, Miss Uma Devi and Mr Trevor Rodrigues, all played an important role in helping her develop skills and have confidence in her ability. She has also managed to get main parts in school productions too.

I just feel sad that my younger daughter did not get the same opportunity as Nicky. I’ve tried looking for a Chiltern House here but to no avail. I just thought you ought to know what a great job your staff has done and would like to thank them.”

Stella, mother of Nicolette
