School Support Services

Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning has been teaching communication, speech and drama programmes in Singapore schools since 1995. The programmes have been developed and refined in partnership with the English department of each school to meet the specific needs of their students.

The development of speech communication skills through our carefully structured programmes help students to build awareness and techniques required for good standard English speech. Students move progressively towards mastery, building confidence and enjoyment of communication, presentation and performance.

In partnership with the California-based educational organisation Learning Forum Inc., we are also pleased to be able to offer Quantum Learning® Study Skills workshops to schools in Singapore. Developed over the last two decades by some of the top educators in the United States, these programmes combine academic, inter-personal and communication skills crucial to success in school and in life.

The programme

All our classes are supported by:
  • Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning's experienced, qualified, specialist teachers.
  • Low student - teacher ratios: One teacher to 22 students maximum.
  • A planned, progressive curriculum.
  • Based on continuous growth and acquisition of skills at each level, the curriculum is reviewed regularly to ensure that our programmes meet the needs of the schools we work with.
  • Specially prepared material: Original material prepared by our team of specialist teachers.
  • Presentations for parents: Our teachers are available for presentations to parents about our programmes during school orientation for parents.
  • Presentations for students: We are also available to talk to students about our programmes during school assembly.
  • Certificates: Certificates of participation from Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning can be arranged for students upon satisfactory completion of a programme.
  • Evaluation forms: Evaluation forms are given out to students at the end of each programme. The school concerned is given an analysis report on the evaluation forms. In this way we open the communication channels between the school, the students and us.
  • Teacher observations: All members of the school academic staff are welcome to observe and participate in any class held at their school.

Partnership benefits

A partner school which takes up a full one year programme (30 weeks), is provided with the following complimentary services:
  • Assessment reports: We provide an end-of-year assessment report for each student upon successful completion of a one year (30-week) programme.
  • School concerts: With sufficient notice, we can prepare students in our programmes for school concerts (e.g. Teacher's Day, Speech Day, year-end concerts etc.)
  • Seminars and talks for staff: We would like to share our knowledge and expertise with the schools' teachers. Talks on how the staff can support their students attending our classes, or how the students' newly acquired speech communication skills can be tapped into in other areas of each school's curriculum are available upon request. Alternatively, we can arrange seminars or talks for teachers on subjects relating to voice care and speech communication.
  • Literature coordination: With sufficient notice, aspects of the literature syllabus can be incorporated into our term material for certain programmes.
  • Library talks: Talks for students regarding the selection of good and appropriate reading materials can be arranged to encourage and inculcate good reading habits.
