EduDrama

Empowers every learner to become a self-leader

What is EduDrama?

EduDrama is a process whereby students create and take part in impromptu drama together, drawing on their own interpretation of a poem or story and adding their own experiences to it. Such creative drama builds self-expression, confidence and problem-solving skills, promoting self-leadership.

We use a wide range of drama (improvisation, theatre, mime, puppetry, role-play, masks, storytelling, reading aloud, dramatic poetry and creative writing) to engage and challenge children to express their ideas through voice, speech, language, movement, art, writing and visual media.

EduDrama teachers, by praising effort, strategy and progress, ignite in children a desire to achieve and develop key competencies for fulfilling potential in a challenging and constantly changing world, including:

  • Skills to collaborate, create and innovate with others
  • A wide range of expressive language
  • Ability to communicate clearly and with good purpose
  • Balance between intellect, emotions and spirit
  • Courage, flexibility and resilience
  • Passion for a lifetime of learning
EduDrama and brain development
The US College Board's 1999 report showed that students with four years or more of drama and acting study scored an average of 44 to 53 points higher than non-dramatic arts students on the average maths and verbal scores. Why? Because drama involves challenge, novelty, interaction, feedback, structure and time: the recipe for brain development.

Curriculum
Our EduDrama curriculum (in English and Mandarin) is carefully structured and developmentally appropriate for each age level, delivered by a teacher who is a native Standard English or Standard Mandarin speaker. Each level's programme covers a spectrum of communication skills that combine talking, listening and conversation with expression, presentation and performance. A four term year covers a balance of skills. Children attend on the same day and time each week, with the same teacher.

Individual learning support for children
Regardless of their skills in acting, all children can take part in and benefit from EduDrama. Teachers are aware that children develop in their own way and time, and each child's EduDrama process is unique. Parents receive reports every term which track their child's progress in key competencies.
