Chiltern House Nursery 2

Nursery 2 is for children who are turning four. The class is run by an English teacher and a teaching assistant. Mandarin classes are conducted by visiting teachers for an hour daily. As in Nursery 1, Nursery 2 classrooms have their learning centres for maths, art, science, writing and computer work as well as the term’s theme.

Themes

Nursery 2 has one theme per term, each spanning ten weeks.

Term 1: Fairy tales
Term 2: Wild animals and birds
Term 3: Growing things and food
Term 4: Children of other lands

Rigby Maths 2000

The children gain an understanding of Maths concepts and skills through the use of oral and written language. Rigby has an activity based and problem solving approach. It is divided into topics with each one building on the other. The Nursery 2 topics are:

• Same and different
• Matching objects
• Sorting objects
• Opposites
• Shapes
• Position and direction
• Ordering events
• Numbers 1 - 10
• Ordering size and length
• Pattern awareness
• Introducing solids
• (Cube, pyramid, sphere, cylinder)
