How we came about
Chiltern House instils a love of learning in their preschoolers
Named after Julia Gabriel’s parents’ home in England,
Chiltern House strives to create the nurturing qualities of home – warmth, security and love, offering full childcare services within a comprehensive preschool curriculum. It is the start of a child’s independent experience away from home and prepares students for confident, successful entry into primary school. The aim of the programme is to nurture growing independence along with positive self-esteem and self-image, and to instil a love of learning through a child’s earliest learning experience.
The curriculum provides a complete and thorough grounding in reading and language arts, mathematics, physical education, music, Mandarin, computer discovery, cooking and science, and art and craft, to prepare children for regular school in Primary 1.
Chiltern House began in 1994, in a colonial house next to the Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama Centre in Halifax Road. Its first pupils were those who had attended PlayClub and whose parents wanted them to continue in the same nurturing style of learning. It is still at Halifax Road, a few doors away from its original location.
A second centre opened at Forum in
1998. A third Chiltern House opened at Turf Club Road in
2001 and a fourth at Crescent Road in
2003.
Chiltern House Jakarta, together with Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning, opened its doors in September 2004.
Chiltern House Kuala Lumpur opened in Bangsar, Petaling Jaya, in
July 2006 and our Shanghai centre open in February 2007.
